Jura's grape-varieties

Wines of Jura quickly take a special bouquet coming from the local soil, giving them a typical and unique taste. This make them stand out of the French wines. On the 1850 hectares of vineyards, we grow 5 grape-varieties :

Two white grape-varieties

Chardonnay The most wide-spread variety. It is used as well for still wines as for Sparkling wine Cremant du Jura . It offers flowers and fruits aromas
Can be aged until 15 years, even more.
Savagnin First of all, this variety is used to produce the famous Vin jaune (Yellow Wine) but it is vinified as a white wine, alone or blent with Chardonnay. It results as a typical wine of Jura with complex aromas of dried fruits, hazelnut and almond.
Can be aged more than 15 years.
The yellow Wine, for its part, can be aged several centuries.
Three red grape-varieties

Poulsard Has the color of a rosé but is a light red wine. Vinified traditionally as a red wine, it has a clear ruby color, it is very fruity when you smell it and there are little red fruits aromas.
Can be aged for about 10 years.
Trousseau It is the typical noble wine from Arbois with a reduced surface ( 5% of the vine plants) It is round and robust, tannic, with a complex smell made of spices aromas and little red fruits wich evolves to undergrowth slent.
It is a long aging wine. It is not unusual to keep it 20 years in cellar.
Pinot noir Gives wines with a very strong taste of soil , of a deep and fruity red.
